Frequently Asked Questions
What's the Companies section for?
Enter a target company, press enter, and it turns Red to signify it's enabled. Clicking on it will also disable it. Searches will only find people currently working at any of the companies you've picked.
What's the RankFilter section for?
Use the RankFilter to find contacts at a particular seniority level. You can drag both sides of the slider bar to narrow down your search.
What are Title Search Terms?
The most accurate way to find contacts is searching based on terms in their title. We've suggested some common terms and you can add more. Toggle these on or off by clicking on them. Red means enabled. Searches will include everyone who matches any of the selected terms, e.g. term1 OR term2 OR term3.
In the Title Search Terms section why can't I enter seniority rank like manager, or titles like CIO?
Break down someone's title into two parts:
- Department
- Seniority level (rank)
Use Title Search Terms for area of expertise, division, or department. Seniority level is handled with the RankFilter.
If you select "information" in Title Search Terms, and "C-Levels" with the RankFilter, Peopletoucher will automatically include CIOs.
For COOs select "operations", CTOs select "technology", etc. Peopletoucher automatically adds these "C-level" titles automatically.
What are the Location options?
If you want to narrow your search by location, you can search within a country, or around a US city.
For example: to find contacts in Houston, select "US city", then start typing Houston and pick one of the suggested zip codes for Houston. When you pick a zip code, it gets added to your inventory so you can re-use it another time. You can also change the max distance with the radius slider.
What is Freshness?
Your searching is limited to people within 3 degrees of separation to you. As your friends and friends-of-friends are making connections, your "network" is growing by every new connection without you doing anything. Freshness settings are useful if you exhaust all your search options and want to come back some time later and try again, omitting contacts you've already been through.
Note: Freshness is not how new contacts are to joining the networking site, it's how new they are to your "network" (within 3 degrees of separation to you). These people could have been on the site for years and recently became visible to you.
What's the Keywords section?
Keywords match anywhere in a person's profile, not just their title. It looks in their summary, job description, responsibilities, and even their interests.
Recruiters: You can use Keywords to drill down on a particular certification like CISSP or software exerience like J2EE, for example, as these terms may or may not be in a person's title. Often they are in the job description field.
Why is using Keywords not recommended?
Keywords is an inaccurate way to search if you just want to search under titles. Use Keywords only when you want to find matches of terms outside of a person's title and Title Search Terms for all others.
Be careful, since your search results are now going to be limited by these keywords - only returning people matching atleast one.
What's the Examples box on the lower left hand side?
Examples are a great way to get started. Pick what contacts you are looking for based on what you sell and we'll suggest some Title Search Terms to start with. Add a company, RankFilter setting, then press search!
I clicked a link someone else made or posted somewhere. Now what?
If you click on a Peopletoucher link someone else made, which included their search settings in the web address, the companies and terms they used will be added to your inventory of terms and enabled. This feature allows you to share your searches with colleagues or post them online.
